There has been a chateau of some form or another on the present sight since the XIV century. Originally the chateau had a moat which combined with

1.2 metre thick tower walls  helped it to defend itself during the feudal wars of the XIV to XVI centuries.
Most of the standing buildings are from the XVII century.

The turreted Chateau Lagorce dates back to the 14th  Century. The chateau's vineyards have recently been sold to the neighbouring Chateau Peneau.
